Fair & Expo work a sound decision

DUNCAN — The alarm seems positive.  Duncan’s Stephens County Fair & Expo Center, host to a full schedule of activities year round as one of the state’s most active and successful agri-tourism facilities, appears to be a victim of its own success.

Programs are growing. Additional space is needed. And expansion talks are beginning.

That’s a credit to Mike Anderson, director of the center, and dozens of supporters and co-workers whose vision has created a popular and highly successful economic development engine just south of town by aiming high and hitting its goal for quality.

Exhibit planners and organizers simply want more of a good thing. They suggest additional stalls, more covered space, increased parking areas and perhaps even another covered arena are needed to meet event needs.

That local officials hear the cry for help is encouraging.

Now is the time to address suggested improvements by creating a unified effort not only to meet today’s needs but those beyond.

Few success stories are brighter than the Stephens County Fair & Expo Center. Keeping it that way seems such a logical and progressive step, one that deserves support from all avenues of government and economic development.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
