Alvin F. Wagner

Sept. 15, 1920 — Jan. 18, 2013

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — — Alvin F. Wagner passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of 92. He had been in declining health for several years and was residing at the Sterling House in Wichita Falls at the time of his death. Prior to his illness, Alvin was a longtime resident of Terral, Okla.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Terral Assembly of God Church with Bro. Charles Parker and Bro. Floyd Key officiating. Interment will follow in the Terral Cemetery under the direction of the Terral Funeral Home.   

Visitation will be noon-7 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends between 6-7 p.m., and Tuesday from 10 a.m. am until service time.

 Alvin was born on Sept. 15, 1920, on the Trout Ranch, east of Ryan, Okla., to Alvin L. (Ab) and Jewel (Cleveland) Wagner. He attended primary school at the Goodwin School. His parents moved to Terral where he graduated from Terral High School in 1939.   

He married Evalyn Blanchard of Ryan on Feb. 7, 1942. Alvin and Evalyn have two children, Sherlyn and Terry.

During World War II, Alvin joined the United States Navy and after basic training in San Diego, Calif., he was stationed at the New Orleans Naval Station where he attended machinist school.  

Alvin was assigned to the Destroyer Escort 362, USS Rolf and deployed to the Pacific Theatre until the end of the war. He attained the rank of Machinist 1st Class and was honorably discharged in 1945.

After the war, Alvin became a farmer, then a master carpenter. He worked in Wichita Falls, until hired by the Halliburton Company in Duncan, where he was employed for 31 years until his retirement. After retirement he was involved with gardening, raising pecans, his church, and his favorite sports, fishing and boating. Alvin was an avid fisherman. Alvin attended the Terral Assembly of God Church.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Ab and Jewel Wagner; his wife Evalyn; his sister, Irene (Wagner) Williams; his granddaughter, Kimberly Martin and his son-in-law, Bobby Martin.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherlyn Martin of Wichita Falls; his son, Dr. Terry Wagner and wife, Laurie of Edmond, Okla.; one brother, Kenneth Wagner of Duncan; a nephew, Randall Wagner of Duncan, and a niece, Barbara Ray of Cement; two granddaughters, Jillian Wagner of New York, New York, Natalie Wagner Fierro and husband, Roberto of Washington, D.C.; grandson, Damon Martin of Wichita Falls; great granddaughter, KaLeigh Bost and husband, James; two great grandsons, Channing and Josh Martin; two great-great granddaughters, Audrey and Abigail Perry and one great great grandson, Camdyn Bost.

To his family and friends, Alvin will be greatly missed and we cherish the time we spent with him.

In these times of grief, let us not forget that Alvin has gone to a better place.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to the Terral Community Center Fund, which has served the community of Terral, in times of great joy and in times of need and was the site of many family reunions that Alvin and Evalyn dearly loved.
