Lynn Ketchum, 80, died at his home on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, after a brief illness. Lynn was born on May 13, 1933, in Duncan to Leonard and Vera Ketchum.
He graduated from Velma-Alma High School in 1951. It was there that he met Joann Sutton, who he married on July 16, 1953, in Velma.
After serving in the United States Air Force, Lynn attended Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1959. After graduation, Lynn worked for John Deere Company in Dallas, Texas. In 1966, Lynn and Joann moved to Durant, where they owned and operated the John Deere equipment dealership for more than 30 years. They retired in 2000 and since that time, Lynn has been involved daily in the family cattle business.
Lynn served on numerous civic boards and committees in Durant and Bryan County, including as a director for First Texoma National Bank and he was honored to serve on the Durant Board of Education for 13 years. Lynn was devoted to education and the youth of Durant.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jack Ketchum.
He is survived by his wife, Joann, of the home, sons Dallas of Durant and Roger and wife Lauri of Durant, granddaughter Kara Ketchum of Stillwater, and her mother Laney Ketchum of Durant, grandson Ty Ketchum of Bartlesville, granddaughter Kelsey Ketchum of Stillwater, brother Edwin Ketchum and wife Velma of Duncan, sister-in-law Marie Ketchum of Duncan, brother-in-law Gary Sutton and wife Bettye of Houston, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A private memorial will be held by the family to honor “Pops.”
