Jessie Claudine Key Reed

July 29, 1916 — Aug. 21, 2013

DUNCAN — Jessie Claudine Key Reed, 97, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Country Club Care Nursing Home.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Greg Tolle and the Rev. Tracy L. Wilson officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Duncan Cemetery under direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.

Jessie was born July 29, 1916, in Bullard, Texas, to James Wesley and Annie Brooks Key. She graduated high school in Kirkland, Texas, and attended Texas Technological College (Texas Tech) in Lubbock, Texas. She married Erwin Winfred Reed on Aug. 2, 1936, in Kirkland, and he preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1996. Jessie was a homemaker, a member of the Methodist Church, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Their daughter, Winifred, was born in 1942. As the wife of a young seminary student with his first church, she and Winifred would travel with Erwin to Fort Worth, Texas, and back to his church in Comanche, on a weekly basis. As the wife of a minister, she lived a life of service and love. Jessie was a helpmate as Erwin served churches in Oklahoma and Texas.  She was truly a devoted servant of God.

Jessie is survived by her daughter, Winifred Bailey and husband Jerry of Duncan; granddaughters: Shannon Rose and Shelly Rose of Arlington, Texas, Becky Thomison of  Tulsa; grandsons: Brad Bailey of Duncan, and Eric Bailey of Dallas, Texas; great-granddaughters: Taylor Moser, Bailey Moser, Sydney Moser, Tomi Moser, Jessica Fisher, Jennifer Thomison and Julianne Thomison; great-grandsons: Saied Bailey and McKay Bailey; and great-great grandson, Winfred Reed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at First United Methodist Church, Duncan.

    Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, Duncan. Interment will follow where Bette will be laid to rest beside her husband in a family cemetery in Alma.
