Michael Raymond (Mike) Carter went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at his home in Granite after a long battle with cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at Chisholm Trail Church of Christ with Rev. Lee Peters of Van Buren Ark. officiating. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche under the direction of the Comanche Funeral Home. Visitation will be until 6 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon at the funeral home in Comanche.
Mike was born to Leo and Ruth (Pickle) Carter on June 28, 1947, in Duncan at the old Lindley Hospital. At an early age, Mike accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Prairie Hill Church of Christ.
Mike attended Meridian Grade School and graduated from Comanche High School in 1965. He also attended Oklahoma Christian College in Edmond. Mike enjoyed antique cars.
When he was younger, for several years, he worked for Halliburton in the chem lab, the field camp, and the production area. He also worked in law enforcement at Comanche and Walters and he served as police chief in Granite. At the time of his death, Mike was employed by the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite as a guard.
Mike is survived by his parents Leo and Ruth Carter, Comanche; one son Michael Lee Carter, Granite; one nephew David Croy and wife Charla, Duncan.
He was preceded in death by his sister Deborah Sue Croy and one nephew John Carter Croy.
Pallbearers will be members of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mike Carter First National Bank and Trust, Granite. All donations will be given to the Cancer Centers of Southwestern Oklahoma.
