Kenneth Dale Whipple was born Aug. 13, 1934, in Eureka, Kan. and passed away on Oct. 14, 2013, at the age of 79, in Duncan.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Dr. Greg Tolle with interment to follow at Duncan Cemetery, under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30-7:30 p.m Thursday.
Dale attended Emporia State College. After college he was employed as an oil rig supervisor with Phillips 66 from 1954-1970 in Venezuela, South America. He then returned to the United States, where he worked with B & B Tool Co. and various other oil field companies, totaling 58 years and was still active as a tool salesman.
Dale was a long-time member of the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club. This was a very important part of his life and he was there daily enjoying either playing golf or cards with his friends. He loved to hunt and fish and he loved to dance. Dale was very respected by all who knew and loved him and was a very genuine person to be with.
Dale married Bonnie Jean Mumford on May 2, 1954. in Eureka, Kan. She preceded him in death Dec. 15, 2008, after 54 years of marriage.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janis Sue and Steve Arrington, Duncan, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy Whipple, Velma and Kevin and Melody Whipple, Flower Mound, Texas, two brothers Allen and Coleen Whipple, Yantis, Texas, Larry and Mary Whipple, Eureka, Kan.; one sister, Carol Ann and Barney Sears, Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren: Braylin and Kristen Arrington, Mindy and Shea Howton, Brandon and Lindy Arrington, Kyle Whipple, Peyton Whipple, Keri Damron, Meri Damron and five great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Jean, his parents, Kenneth Ernest and Leona Purkeypile Whipple and by a great-grandchild, Ella Michelle Arrington.
Pallbearers will be: Brad Shepherd, Mike Elliot, Mike Fiorillo, Brent Bostick, C.H. Barnes and Nub Sullivan.
Honorary bearers are Butch Forbes, John Spiece, Phil Parham, Cecil Conner and Jerry Farris.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
