Retired Lt. Col. Don Van Dyke, DVM of the USAF, passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 80.
Most of his military career was working for the navy in Anti Submarine warfare. He did two years research for the Army at MIT. He was also a graduate from Texas A&M. Don was president of the veterans association in Lawton. His many letters to Congress played a big part in getting justice in the proper payment for retired disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fran; his father, Cecil Van Dyke and mother, Verline; his brother, Paul Van Dyke; and his nephew, Max Van Dyke.
He is survived by his brother, Jack Van Dyke and wife, Maxine; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Amrina Willbanks.
Don was a very loving and understanding person to all.
Graveside funeral service, with full military honors, was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche under direction of Comanche Funeral Home.
