Known as Laveta to her family and Vivian to friends, she was born Sept. 8, 1932, in Lindsay, the oldest child of Alvis and Guthrie Travis. She attended schools in Elmore City, and Oklaunion, Texas.

She married Herman Lee Vosburgh on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 1950, in Oklaunion, Texas. They made their home in Frederick, until 1965, when they moved their family to Duncan, after Herman took a job with KRHD radio.

Survivors include three daughters: Glenda Vosburgh of Plano, Texas, Cindy Altom and husband David of Duncan, and Sandra Garcia and husband Amos of Floresville, Texas. She also is survived by her brothers: Floyd Travis and wife Laqueta of Davidson, and A.J. Travis of Beckville, Texas; and her sisters: Ophelia Wheeler of San Antonio, Texas, Floreta Oxley and husband Jay of Mannsville, and Alene Moyer of Highland, Calif..

Vivian is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many family members and friends, all of whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Vosburgh; her parents, Alvis and Guthrie Travis; a sister, Virginia Rodgers Shane; niece, Karen Jean Rodgers; and granddaughter-in-law, Sherry Pollard.

Vivian was a devout Christian. She worked in the child care field at Kirby First Baptist Church daycare in San Antonio and at First Baptist Church in Duncan, where she was known as “Miss Vivian.”  She also participated in the Foster Grandparent program for Delta Community Action.

She was an avid reader and especially loved a good spy thriller. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
