L.B. Pearson

Nov. 3, 1926 – March 22, 2014

NORMAN — L.B. was born on Nov. 3, 1926, east of Marlow, to Louis and Ray Pearson. He was the youngest of their five children. He had three brothers: Clyde, Don and Wayne; and a sister, Jewell. He also had an older half brother and sister, Price and Lillian.

LB. grew up on various farms in the Marlow/Central High area and attended the community schools. At age 18, he was drafted into the U.S. Army/Air Force toward the end of World War II.

L.B. married Gertrude Nunley on June 30, 1945. They made their first homes, while in the service, in Amarillo and San Antonio, Texas. After military service, L.B. and Gertrude moved to Duncan, where they spent the next 23 years. They had two children: Carol and Randy.

L.B. worked for Maytag in appliance sales and repair for 17 years and then established Person’s Appliance. Gertrude opened a beauty shop in their home. In 1964 L.B. began working for Civil Service Post Engineers at Ft. Sill in Lawton and lived there for 23 years. He retired in 1980.

Carol encouraged them to move to Norman to be closer to their children and grandchildren, and they moved to their current residence in Norman in 1994.

Known as B to family and friends, he was a member of NorthHaven Baptist Church. He was an ordained deacon and his faith and service were an important part of his life. B enjoyed wood carving, knife collecting and most of all, gardening. His yard was a labor of love, and he particularly enjoyed sharing it with others. When he could no longer garden, he enjoyed bird watching, and even got a kick out of watching pesky squirrels take over his bird feeders.

B loved the OU Sooners, especially women’s basketball, and in recent years became a Thunder fan.

B was best known as a kindhearted gentleman — loyal, loving, and generous to all. He was very proud of his family. He was “grandpa” to his four grandchildren and “BB” to his five great-grandchildren. They brought him much joy. Family gatherings and events were always extra special for B; there’s nothing he loved more.

L.B. passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014. He will be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

His survivors include his wife of 68 years, Gertrude of the home; his daughter, Carol, Norman; his son, Randy and wife Jonell, Edmond; his grandchildren: Nathan Lockhart and wife Staci, Norman, Greg Lockhart, Oklahoma City, Erin Kaiser and husband Cameron, Oklahoma City, and Whitney Pearson, Tulsa; his great-grandchildren: Kate, Jane and Elle Lockhart, Pepa Lockhart, Canon Kaiser, and one more great-grandson, due in early April.

Funeral Services will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at NorthHaven Church, 4600 36th Avenue, N.W. in Norman, with interment following at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman.

Arrangements for L.B. and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be shared at

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
