Tommie Smith

Dec. 22, 1923 — March 17, 2014

DUNCAN — Tommie Smith, our beloved Mother and Mama, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 17, 2014, surrounded by her family.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, Duncan, with the Rev. Tony Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Duncan Cemetery.

Family will gather at 6 p.m. Wednesday at 1204 Harville Road, Duncan.

She was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Duncan, to Lee and Roma Foster. She married Robert Smith in Piggott, Ark., and they were blessed with 61 years of marriage.

Tommie was a devoted wife, mother and Mama. She believed her purpose on Earth was to care for others. During her life, she cared for numerous members of her family, friends and her church family. She was generous and always giving of herself to anyone in need.

Tommie was a long time member of the Bible Missionary Church and devoted her life to serving God. She was honest, hardworking, loyal, and true to her beliefs. Those who knew her well, will also agree that she was a very determined Lady and didn’t waver from what she believed. Together, she and her husband set an amazing example for their family and left a remarkable legacy.

Tommie is survived by five children: Frankie Richey of Duncan, Mike and Lonna Smith of Ryan, Shirley and Joe Freeman of Duncan, Terry and Teresita Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rowena and Alan Crouch of Upland, Calif.; grandchildren: Robbie Richey, Cindy Stricklin, Randy Richey, Mark Smith, Michael Smith, Tammy O’Dell, Rodney Freeman, DeLynn Raines, Jennifer Bousquet, Christina Pitts, Joey Smith and Jason Crouch; great-grandchildren: Kristen Arrington, Jeremy Richey, Lindsey Moeller, Casey Hennan, Tyler Richey, Randi Nichols, Dylan Richey, Sebastian Bousquet, Trey Pitts, Matthew Smith, Morgan Smith, Marcus Smith, Lucas Smith, Jacob Smith, Callie Freeman, Cameron Freeman, Mackenzie Raines, Taylor Raines, Ashlynn O’Dell and Brayden O’Dell; great-great-grandchildren: Ryan and Madison Arrington, Kylie, Evan, Ashlyn and Emma Richey, Wade Richey and Brody Moeller; two sisters: Stella Duckworth and Katie Cypert; a sister-in-law, Adele Foster; and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son-in-law, Pat Richey; brothers: Leonard Foster, Don Foster and Ken Foster; a sister, Oma Willett; and a sister-in-law, Delores Foster.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Robbie Richey, Randy Richey, Mark Smith, Rodney Freeman, Casey Hennan, Tyler Richey and Jeremy Richey.
