Doris Nell Tyler

Nov. 9. 1928 — March 17, 2014

DUNCAN — Doris Nell Tyler, 85, of Duncan, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, before being taken home to be with her Savior, who she had served faithfully all the days of her life.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Eastside Church of Christ with Ron Stough officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 21, at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin. Services are under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan.

Family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at the funeral home.

Doris Nell Tyler was born to William “Slim” and Bernice Pohlman on Nov. 9, 1928, in Electra, Texas, and grew up in Punkin Center, Texas.

Doris married Thomas Tyler on Sept. 8, 1950. They have four sons: Gary, Steven, Michael, and John Tyler, all of whom survive her.

Doris worked for many years at the bank in Ryan, where Tommy and Doris lived and raised their children. The times she spent with her family, both physical and spiritual, were her greatest joys. Doris was a member of the Eastside church of Christ. She was a wonderful example of a Christian who loved to serve her Lord and others. The week of her death, she had helped with two funeral meals to provide support and comfort for members of her church family.

Doris was an avid member of the Simmon’s Center. She and Tommy loved to go the Simmon’s Center every day. She made many friends there, and she greatly enjoyed the time she spent exercising with them.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Tommy of the home; and their four sons: Gary Tyler and Susan of Houston, Texas, Steven Tyler and Melody of Waurika, Michael Tyler and Cathy of Farmington, N.M., John Tyler and Janice of Marietta, S.C. Grandchildren include Kimberly Tyler Atkinson and husband Darryn, Kelly Tyler McCarty and husband Chase, Kristy Tyler Goldman and husband Kyle, Daryl Tyler, Stephanie Tyler Madden and husband Chad, Brett Tyler and wife Ashley, Brooke Tyler Gramling and husband Andrew, Mitch Tyler and wife Charla, Kevin Tyler, Megan Tyler. Great-grandchildren are Kyley, Molly, Brandon and Brooklyn Atkinson; Mason McCarty; Maddie and Claire Goldman; Reese Tyler. She is also survived by a brother, Bobby Pohlman.
