Bernice Wade Gibbs

May 5, 1919 — March 15, 2014

DUNCAN — Bernice Wade Gibbs, 94, of Duncan, died Saturday morning, March 15, 2014, in Lawton.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Gillispie officiating. Burial will follow at the Duncan Cemetery. Services are under direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the funeral home.

Bernice was born May 5, 1919, to Lee and Louvisa Stanley in Duncan. She married Stanley Wade in 1935. They had and raised six children together.

Their five daughters, all of Duncan, include Mary Schimmels, Virginia Gore, Patricia Dill, Fran Gray Farnam and Nancy Artre and husband David. Their son Charles Wade and Maria reside in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Her husband, Stanley, passed away in December 1994, leaving a large void in her life.

Bernice remarried six years later to an old friend (and fellow church member) Skip Gibbs. Skip passed away in 2012.

She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her six children, 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Bernice was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Lillie Mae Bradley and Virginia “Flick” Brown; two brothers: Joseph “Choc” Stanley and Lester “Johnny” Stanley; and a grandson, Stanley Ellis Gray.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary bearers are her great-grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Kidney Fund; 6110 Executive Boulevard; Suite 1010; Rockville, MD 20852-9813.
