Fred was born Dec. 11, 1950, to Frederick R. and Mary Berneice (Miller) Gibbons in Mt. Vernon, Ind..  He was born in a house on Second Street and was a life-long resident of Mt. Vernon until 2001, when he moved to Duncan with his wife, Sue. Fred attended Mt. Vernon schools where he cemented a brotherhood of life-long friends. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in May, 1969, and from Indiana State University in May 1973 with degrees in history and art history. After living and working at DuPont in Leominster, Mass., for two years, he returned home to Indiana, went to work, helped out his mom and dad, and spent many wonderful years with his family and friends.

Fred began his 39-year security career at Pioneer Seed in Mt. Vernon; he was active in the security set up at SIGECO’s A. B. Brown Station; he worked for Pinkerton’s Security at Babcox and Wilcox during their peak; he supervised the Mt. Vernon Bristol-Meyers Squibb site for Wackenhut Security.  He continued his security work in Oklahoma at Family Dollar Distribution Center in Duncan.  Fred was admired for his ability to see the individual inside the person. His work ethic was spot on, and his attitude toward all those he came into contact with made him an asset to every job he worked. He was well-respected by his peers.

Fred loved art and music.  He read extensively and was never without a book in progress. Fred loved to travel and had visited 38 of the 48 continental states; he traveled to Canada twice.  He loved to work the newspaper crossword puzzle, saving them up for the weekend like treats. After 42 years of bachelorhood, he became a wonderful husband, the best helpmate and friend a spouse could ever be.  He married Sue Davis on Oct. 3, 1992, in Mt. Vernon.

Fred was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frederick Rhine and Mary Berneice Gibbons.

Fred is survived by his wife, Sue of the home, Duncan; brother, David and wife, Mary Ann Pickard of Warner-Robbins, Ga.; sister, Laura and husband, Alan Schelhorn of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; sister, Pat and husband, Doug King of Chandler, Ind.; brother, Chuck Gibbons of Evansville, Ind.; and sister, Cathie and husband, Michael Miller of Evansville, Ind.
