Preacher John Douthitt Jr., 85, of Duncan passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 at Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, in the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Hatfield officiating, assisted by W.W. Harkins. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
John was born June 22, 1928 at McAlester, to John Thomas and LaRue (Edwards) Douthitt.
He graduated from Empire High School and attended Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas. He married Evelyn L. Johnson on Jan. 25, 1948 at Corum.
John was a farmer, a rancher, oilfield worker and a contract carpenter. In 1967, he was ordained as an Assembly of God minister. He helped build several churches and pastored in Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma. He gave of his time and talents to mission work, helping build a church in the Honduras and made several trips to the Holy Land. At the time of John’s death, he had been pastor of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church since July 7, 1974.
John is survived by his wife Evelyn of the home; two daughters, LaNeal Turner and husband Lloyd of Chickasha and Johnetta Smith of Thompson, Conn.; one son Tom Douthitt and wife Rosetta of Cleburne, Texas; six grandchildren, Stacy and Jeff Crutchfield, Patrick Turner, Sharon and Aaron Vass, Don Douthitt, Aaron Smith and Jordan Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Allison and Turner Crutchfield and William, Bella and Alyssa Vass.
John is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas Ernest and Billie Douthitt.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Turner, Jeff Crutchfield, Don Douthitt, Aaron Vass, Aaron Smith and Jordan Smith. Honorary bearers will be the men of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church.
