DUNCAN — Wilma Lee Garrett, 87, of Duncan, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Duncan Regional Hospital, surrounded by her children.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Randy Southerland. Burial will follow in Duncan Cemetery under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lee was born June 7, 1926, in Holdenville, to William Walter Jr. and Anna Retta Taylor Flessa. She was the middle of nine children: eight girls and one boy. She attended St. Louis, (Okla.) schools, graduating in 1944. She married her grade school sweetheart, A.G. “Salty” Garrett on April 24, 1944, in Shawnee. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church West.

Her greatest joy was her family. She was a full time homemaker, raising four children. She was a talented seamstress, for years making her three daughters’ Easter dresses including embroidery and smocking.

She was an excellent cook and baker and was especially known for her homemade Christmas candies, which were anticipated by her family each year. She only worked outside the home once her youngest child left for college, as a clerk at Albins Clothing store, which fulfilled her love of fashion. In 1988, she started a home based cosmetics business which she maintained until 2010.

Lee was a 22-year breast cancer survivor and was an avid supporter of that cause and supporter of many other charities.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters, and also her husband of 68 years, Salty, in January 2013.

She is survived by a son, Al Garrett and wife Jan of Springtown, Texas; daughter, Jana Lee Haynie and husband Robert of Lubbock, Texas; daughter, Patti Rawlings of Oklahoma City; daughter, Susan Nichols and husband David of Duncan; seven grandchildren: Lisa, Chad, Rob, Misti Lee, Trace, Meghan and Ashlee; and 14 great-grandchildren including two more namesakes, Lexi Lee and Emalee. She is also survived by two sisters: Jeanie Bishop of Macomb, Annie Stacey of Shawnee; and her only brother, Bill Flessa of Valley View, Texas.

She was aunt Lee-Lee to a multitude of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Pallbearers will be Chad Garrett, Rob Haynie, Trace Nichols, Zach Haynie, Chase Ray, Matt Sisk, Paul Davis, Chad Choate and Carlos Rayos.
