Henry Offord ‘Hank’ Tuell II

Dec. 12, 1916 — Sept. 17, 2013

DUNCAN — Henry Offord Tuell II, of Duncan, passed from this world Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013.

The patriarch of the Tuell family, Papa was among us for more than 96 years. He departed serenely, surrounded by his loving family.

Henry, the son of Henry Offord Tuell and Mazie Cecil Frost, was born in Lindsay, on Dec. 12, 1916. He grew up in Lindsay, where he attended elementary and high school before earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Oklahoma University.

In 1939, a mutual friend introduced him to Eunice Virginia Victria. Henry and Eunice married that July in Tecumseh, and she became his best friend and companion for the next 74 years.

After teaching school for two years at Paoli, Henry joined the U.S. Border Patrol in 1942, moving his young family to southern Arizona. It was a job he loved and would fondly reminisce about the rest of his days.

As World War II drew to a close in 1945, he briefly left the Immigration and Naturalization Service to serve in the U.S. Army, later returning to the Border Patrol as an inspector.

In 1955, Henry returned with his family to his home state of Oklahoma to take a job with the Social Security Administration. In 1977, after more than two decades as a Social Security field representative based in Lawton, he retired from civil service and moved to Duncan. There, he spent the next quarter century tending to his home, workshop, spacious yard and garden with his beloved wife and lifelong companion, Eunice. He also was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Duncan.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mazie; a loving stepfather, Archibald Columbus High; and son-in-law Robert Perry Salzman.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Duncan; his children: Henry Offord Tuell III (and wife Linda) of Red Lodge, Mont., Carol Tuell Salzman, Thomas Frost Tuell (and wife Kathleen), Vicki Tuell Lynch (and David Lynch), all of Duncan; grandchildren: Christi Vanis Koz, Laura Tuell, Henry Offord Tuell IV, Jessica Jones and Caylin Lynch; and great-grandchildren: Grace Koz, Carley Koz and Mae Lizzie Peebles.

Brief graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the family burial plot in Erin Springs Cemetery south of Lindsay, with the Rev. Tracy Wilson and Henry Tuell IV officiating. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to B.G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay.

Condolences may be made to the family online at www.boydstonfuneralhome.com.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
