Joyce Seleta Lynch Johns

Sept. 6, 1915 — April 2, 2014

DUNCAN — Joyce Seleta Lynch Johns passed away Saturday, April 2, 2014, in Duncan, at the age of 98. She was born Sept. 6, 1915, to Walter and Mary Peck Lynch in Comanche. Joyce was the oldest of nine children.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Services are under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Joyce married Ralph Johns on Nov. 17, 1931, and were married for 44 years until his death Aug. 8, 1975. To this union four children were born to make this family complete.

Joyce was a dedicated homemaker, mother, wife and excellent cook. Her family has fond memories of all the wonderful meals she made for them. She kept her bright intellect to the very end and greatly enjoyed following her favorite football teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the OU Sooners.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; two sons: Charles Johns and Clyde Johns; a grandson, Allen Johns; two sisters and five brothers.

Joyce is survived by two daughters: Sue Howard and her husband Joe of Hillsboro, Ore., and Barbara Rutledge of Buda, Texas; daughters-in-law: Gracalee Johns and Sharleen Johns, both of Duncan; a sister, Bonnie Wheat of Corning, Calif.; seven grandchildren: Cheryl Gee, Mark Johns, Kim Zehr, Glynis Johns, Pam Howard, Matt Rutledge and Kathleen Nichols; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be made to the Stephens County Museum, P.O. Box 1294 Duncan, OK 73534 or to the charity of your choice.
