DUNCAN — Feb. 11, 1943 — Oct. 12, 2012

Carl Leroy Merrill was born Feb. 11, 1943 at Mountain View, and passed away Oct. 12, 2012 in Duncan at the age of 69.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche, officiated by Rev. Harold Metheny under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:30 until 7 p.m.

Carl, known to his family and friends as the “Old Man”, was a self-employed home contractor for 26 years. He also built, owned and operated Eastland Grocery Store for 23 years from 1979 until his retirement in 2002. He was an avid croquet player and loved dominoes, farming and his cattle and especially enjoyed working hard and breaking a sweat. Carl also had a passion for his garden, which he gave away to family and friends. Carl especially enjoyed his Sunday mornings, playing dominoes with his son Curt.

Carl and Wanda Kay Igo were married Aug. 3, 1962 at Cordell.

Survivors include his wife, Kay, of the home, four children, Carl and Cindy Merrill, Duncan, Debra and Kenny Jones of Duncan, Mickie and Mike Keenan of Comanche, and Curt Merrill of Duncan, a brother, Brent and Barbara Merrill of Duncan, a brother-in-law, Mike Perrodin, Oklahoma City, eight grandchildren, Melea Thompson, Brooke Merrill and Jordan Bonham, Ashley Wickard, Bailee Merrill, Tyler Wickard, Courtney Jones, Cody Merrill and Katlyn Jones, four great-grandchildren, Jacobi Thompson, Jordan Thompson, Andrea Drew and Maddox Bonham and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, H.B. and Lavern Elaine Teal Merrill Jr., and two sisters, Judy Milburn and Brenda Perrodin.
