Terry L. Gardner

July 4, 1940-July 4, 2014

DUNCAN — Terry L. Gardner, 74, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 in Duncan.

Viewing will be Tuesday, July 8 with the family receiving friends on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.

Terry was born Thursday, July 4, 1940 in Muskegon, Mich., to Harold Albert and Bernadine Loretta (Olson) Gardner. He attended Muskegon Heights High School, City College of Chicago, and the University of Maryland. On April 8, 1960, Terry married Joy Jo Neely in Lawton. Terry served his country for over 20 years as a member of the United States Army Signal Corps. He served two tours in Vietnam; 1968-1969 and 1970-1971. During the Berlin Crisis Terry was stationed in France and then in Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Terry was honored with the Bronze Star with Second Oak Leaf Cluster along with several other commendations and awards. During his career in the Army, Terry and his family lived in many locations including France, Leesville, La., Bad Kissingen, Germany, Ludwicksburg, Germany, Killeen, Texas, Colorado Springs, Colo., Olympia, Wash., and Lawton. Terry retired in 1977 and had lived in Marlow for the past 31 years. He was ordained as Deacon at Cache Road Baptist Church in Lawton on Nov. 15, 1981. Terry was a member of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church in Marlow. He loved the outdoors and stock car racing. When he was younger he also enjoyed fishing. Terry loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Joy J. Gardner of the home, son, Timothy John Gardner of Marlow, two daughters, Theresa Lynn Ensley of Marlow and Jacquetta Joy Shoemaker and husband Michael of Burleson, Texas, six grandchildren, Stephanie L. Goins and husband Jared, Nicole L. Ensley, Ashley L. Ensley, Monique M. Maccarone, Skyler D. Gardner, and Sicily J. Gardner,

one great-grandchild, Mackenzie L. Goins, and several cousins.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents.
