Barbara Adrian McCartney

April 5, 1949 — May 14, 2013

DUNCAN — Barbara Adrian McCartney was welcomed in the Kingdom of Heaven, Tuesday, May 14, 2013. A memorial potluck dinner will be held in Barbara’s honor for family and friends at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at the Velma Baptist Church Life Center. Everyone is encouraged to bring a covered dish and a dessert and help celebrate the life of Barbara McCartney.

Barbara was born April 5, 1949 in Edinburg, Texas to Mildred and Stanley Biggs. She grew up in Texas and enjoyed the time spent living with her beloved aunt, Dory Carrell.

Barbara moved to Oklahoma and graduated from Loco High School in 1967. In the same year, she married her sweetheart Anthony McCartney and they made their home in the Loco area, raising two daughters, Christine Wheeler and Debbie Richardson.

Barbara loved her family and always put their needs before her own. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Barbara recently joined the Catholic church, which had been on her heart to do so for some time.

Barbara was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support she was shown by her family, friends and community upon learning of her illness. She was humbled by the love shown to her family during such a difficult time. She loved her community and loved supporting the Velma-Alma Comets and she was known to many Comets as “Granny.”

Preceding Barbara in death were her parents, her beloved Aunt Dory, sister Merry Byram and sister Shirley Warrington.

Barbara is survived by her husband, her daughters, her grandchildren, Lanna Mills and husband Gary of Erick, Laramie Gardner and fiancé Kristie Maxwell of Thermopolis, Wyo., Lane McCracken of Central High and Ty Richardson of Velma.

She is also survived by her sister Helen McCartney of Elmore City, sister Leona Womack of Bonham, Texas, Mildred Prunty and husband Jerry of Paris, Texas, brother Bryan Biggs of Ledbetter, Texas, and brother Stanley Biggs of Reno, Texas, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
