LAWTON — Justina Charlene Powers, 46, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, in Lawton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home, with David Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.

Justina Charlene Powers was born Monday, March 7, 1966, in Ridgecrest, Calif., to John and Judy Tow Powers. Tina grew up in Boron, Calif., and graduated from Boron High School. She received her undergraduate degree from California State University, Bakersfield, and later earned her PhD in child psychology from the University of California, Riverside.

Tina moved from Lancaster, Calif., to Duncan in 2002. She had lived in Lawton for the past 1 1/2 years, while working as a child development specialist for the Comanche County Health Department. Previously, Tina was a professor for Cameron University in Lawton for five years.

She loved working with children and helping others. Tina wanted to save the world. She was always willing to help in any way she could for anybody. Tina was an avid animal lover, donating of her time to be involved with the SPCA and the Humane Society of Lawton and Duncan.

Survivors include her parents, John and Judy Powers of Duncan; two sisters: Jewel Whitaker and husband Vance of Modesto, Calif., and Jeanette Baird and husband Keith of Boron; a niece, three nephews, two great-nieces, two great-nephews, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Tina was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Charles and Jewel Tow, her paternal grandparents, two uncles, and two cousins.

Pallbearers will be Izaak Brackett, Randal Brackett, David Cooper and Jamey Brackett.

Memorial contributions may be made in Tina’s honor to the Humane Society.
