M.L. ‘Monk’ Johnson

Aug. 27, 1938 — April 20, 2014

MARLOW — M.L. “Monk” Johnson, of Duncan, passed from this life Sunday April 20, 2014, in Marlow, after a lengthy illness. He was 75 years old.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with Jean Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Marlow Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Monk was born Aug. 27, 1938, in Allen, to Herschel and Jeanita Vinson Johnson. On Aug. 19, 1955, he married Annette Brown and to this union two children were born: Sherry and Michael. Although they divorced, they remained friends until her death in 2011.

He spent his entire life working in all aspects of the oilfield. Before retirement, he was owner/operator of Crown Petroleum and Comanche Energy. He was a loving father and Pop, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his mother, Jeanita Richardson and husband Max of Hennessey; his daughter and “son,” Sherry and Dan Goddard of Duncan; grandchildren: Kerri Williams, Kory Allen, Danna and James Coapland, and Tony Goddard; great-grandchildren: Megan and Logan Williams, Kinlee Allen, Devyn Goddard, Jessica and Jordan Kilgore, Alleigh Hogan, and Tatem Coapland; three brothers: Floyd and Gail Hardin, Ross and Nadine Hardin, and Randy and Sandra Hardin, all of Hennessey; five sisters: Darlene and Rick Trost of Farmington, N.M., Anita and Dave LaRose of Coventry, R.I., Brenda and Greg Culp of Tulsa, Jen and Les Witt and Sandra Manley, all of Troy, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews; a special “son,” Brent McReynolds; as well as his three furry four-legged “kids.”

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Claud and Callie Vinson; his father; his step-father, Floyd Hardin; a son, Michael, who died in infancy; and his first wife, Annette.

Pallbearers will be Wade Williams, Brent McReynolds, Gary Vinson, Leland Vinson, David Vinson and Bill Schettler.
