DUNCAN — Tex M. Parks

July 10, 1935-April 11, 2014

Tex M. Parks, 78, Beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Tex was born July 10, 1935 and was a life-long native of Velma. He was the son of Charlie D. Parks and Vena L. Kirkpatrick Parks.

He graduated from Velma-Alma High School in 1954, and married Joy Ann Davis on Dec. 3, 1955. Tex took over caring for the family farm as a teenager when his father, Charlie, passed away at home. He worked for the Stephens County Commissioners Department for several years before beginning his oilfield career with Skelly Oil Company, which transitioned through the years to become Getty and then Texaco Oil Company, from which he retired after 30 years of service.

After his retirement, Tex returned full-time to his farming and ranching activities, where he was the happiest working with his cattle or sitting behind the wheel of his tractor. He also enjoyed watching sports and always rooted for OU, OSU and the Oklahoma Thunder basketball team.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Ann Davis Parks of the home, one son, Charles D (CD) Parks of Dallas, two grandchildren, Kristen and Collin Parks, both of Texas, and numerous relatives.

Funeral service will be held at the Velma Baptist Church and officiated by Rev. Ed Sasnett on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 10 a.m.

Pallbearers will be: Lloyd Ely, John Clower, Troy Hobbs, David Allred, Mark Ely and Kent Pogue.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Garvin Clower, Imon Newman, Clayton Allred, Jerb Bryant and Roy Smith.

Open visitation is at the Don Grantham Funeral Home in Duncan. Burial will be in the Old Velma Cemetery following the service.
