Jewell Dean (Posey) Shelton

July 17, 1932 — June 21, 2013

DUNCAN —

Jewell Shelton, 81, is now residing in Heaven with our Lord and Savior. She took her last breath on this earth Friday, June 21, 2013, at Wilkins Nursing Center in Duncan.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating.  Interment will be at Mount Olive Cemetery in Healdton, with arrangements under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.

A family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jewell was born to Horace Ambrose Posey and Edna (Lunsford) Posey, July 17, 1932 in Wetumpka.

At a very early age she moved with her parents to Healdton, where she attended grade school and high school.

She married Robert Shelton, Jan. 29, 1949, in Healdton. She and Robert made their home in Tishomingo where she was a student at Tishomingo High School and Robert was a student at Murray State School of Agriculture.

In August 1950 she and Robert moved to Duncan. She was a dental assistant for Dr. Jack and Robert was employed as a machinist for Halliburton.

In 1955 Jewell went to work as a secretary in the Mechanical Research Department for Halliburton. In 1959 she continued to work, but prevailed upon Robert to complete the requirements for an engineering degree from Oklahoma University.

Shortly after Robert returned to Halliburton as an engineer in January 1963, Jewell left the company and enrolled in the University of Art and Science at Chickasha.

She returned to Halliburton in December of 1969, as a legal secretary in the Patent Section. She retired in 1982.

Jewell was a wonderful companion to Robert, dog wrangler and puppy raiser. She was an avid clown collector and loved caring for a procession of homeless cats that became part of her life over the many years she lived in the country starting in 1973. She started growing pretty flower gardens seen and she had a garden and had the largest tomatoes and best tasting tomatoes you would ever have.

Jewell was preceded in death by her father, Horace A. Posey, in 1990 and her mother, Edna Posey in 1995, a sister Beatrice White in 2008 and her husband Robert Shelton in 2010.

Survivors include a brother, Bobby Gene Posey and his wife Betty of Del City; nieces Connie Sue (West) Ballard and her husband David, Patricia Ann (West) Dean and Elizabeth Jo (Posey) Alexander and her husband Paul; nephews, Wesley Wade West and his wife Sharon, Raymond Gene Posey and his wife Beby, Miles Brad Posey, Edward Brian Posey and his wife Tina; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
