John Preston Gatewood

March 18, 1955 — June 7, 2013

DUNCAN — John Preston Gatewood, 58, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2013 in Duncan.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.

Preston was born March 18, 1955, in Tulia, Texas to John and LaQueta (Smith) Gatewood.

He and his three younger brothers spent the early years of their lives in west Texas before the family moved to Duncan in 1967. Preston married Lea Ann Bruner on Sept. 18, 1976, and to this union were two children, Nathan and Lindsey.

Preston is survived by son Nathan Gatewood and wife Bonnie and granddaughter Atalie of Duncan, daughter Lindsey Wendt and husband Travis of Houston, Texas and their mother Lea Ann Gatewood of Houston, Texas, his father John Gatewood and wife Beverly of Duncan, his mother LaQueta Foster and husband Clyde of Plainview, Texas, three brothers Dan Gatewood and wife Connie of Edmond, Jeff Gatewood and wife Esther of Hudson Oaks, Texas and Mike Gatewood and wife Vicky of Saginaw, Texas. He is also survived by a niece Sarah, nephews Logan, Evan, Paul and James; his Aunt Bea and Uncle Jerry Herndon of Tulia, Texas and numerous cousins.

Preston was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gorden Gatewood and Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Lu-Jo KISMIF or Westview Boys Home.

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.

    Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, in the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery under direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.
