RUSH SPRINGS — William Chapman Southerland was born Dec. 10, 1933, in Rush Springs, to Mellie Mae Ethel Chapman and William Henry Southerland. He graduated in 1951, from Chickasha High School in Chickasha.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He met the love of his life and wife of 54 years while on a church choir hayride in Chickasha in 1958. He and Patricia Ann Kennedy married Jan. 24, 1959, in Waurika, at the First Baptist Church.

Throughout his lifetime, he was always involved in church and he loved music, especially singing and playing the piano. He loved telling jokes, was an avid reader, enjoyed playing games and spending time with family. He was a lifelong active member of the Baptist Church, where he served in many roles including singing in the worship choir and serving as a deacon.
