Harold Don Cannon

May 4, 1926-April 28, 2014

DUNCAN — Don Cannon, 87, of Duncan, Oklahoma passed from this life on Monday, April 28, 2014, as he lived, with dignity and grace.

Graveside services, with Oklahoma Highway Patrol honors, will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Little Cemetery, Little, Oklahoma, with OHP Chaplain Sam Garner and Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Don was born May 4, 1926 at Shawnee, Okla. to Hank and Lily Cannon. He graduated from Poly Tech High School in Long Beach, Calif. and received his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern Oklahoma State University.

Don, at the age of 16, convinced his parents to sign on his behalf so he could enlist to receive flight training. He served his country during World War II flying B-24 missions out of North Africa, Casablanca and Rubat. After the war, he spent time working in the oilfield before joining the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, where he retired as a Major. As a young trooper, Don spent time in Broken Arrow and with his partner Gene Frusher, trained with the New York City Police Dept. During his career he was over the airline division for the state and flew Governors from Gary to Boren.

Don married Bobbie Fulmer and to this union a son, Jack, and a daughter, Donna, were born. Don married Jan Howard and together they made their home in Duncan.

Don loved to hunt, read and play gin. In public or private, he was always true to himself. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, this loyal man of good character will be greatly missed.

Don is survived by his wife Jan, of the home, son Jack Cannon and wife Michelle and their daughter, Casey, of San Clements, Calif., daughter Donna Layton and husband Brian and their sons, Luke and Jackson of Piedmont, Okla.  He is also survived by his loving step-daughters, Alyce Longest and husband Steve of Ringling, Okla., Suzanne Konarik and husband Jim of Oklahoma City and grandsons, Lee, Tyler and Mat Huber of Reno, Nev.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Pallbearers serving will be Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Trooper Nathan Mackey, Trooper Darin Brent Carmen, Gene Frusher, Capt. Retired and Jerry Cook, Chief Retired.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Memorial Fund.

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
