Betty Lou Cook

Feb. 21, 1931 — March 13, 2014

DUNCAN — Betty Lou Cook, 83, of Duncan, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Country Club Care with her family by her side.

Funeral service was Monday, March 17, at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Couch officiating. Interment will be at the Rock Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.

Family visitation was Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

Betty was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Hastings, to Ralph Mac and Ethel McLemore Brooks. A resident of Duncan for 40 years, she moved to Duncan from Waurika, at the age of 12.

She married her husband Gerald while still in high school and lived in the area for the next six years and then traveled the U.S. with the military until 1975.

Betty married Gerald Cook on Feb. 5, 1949. She was a homemaker and wife for 65 years, a mother to four children, a grandmother to 17 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald of the home; sons: Ralph E. and wife Pauletta Cook of Amarillo, Texas, Roland M. and wife Anne Cook of Colorado Springs, Colo., Richard M. and wife Carol Cook of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Rebecca L. and husband Jim Murtha of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two step-great- grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ethel Brook, and a brother, Chester Mac Brooks.

Pallbearers will be Jason Murtha, Russell Cook, Garrett Cook, Brady Cook, Ben Cook and Mackenzie Cook.
