Winston Scott ‘Skeeter’ Dennis

July 10, 1930 — Aug. 22, 2013

Ryan — RYAN — Winston Scott “Skeeter” Dennis was born July 10, 1930, in Denton, Texas, to Scott and Essie Agnes Howard Dennis. He passed from this life Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at his home in Aledo, Texas, at the age of 83.

He grew up in Grady, Waurika and Ringling, and graduated from Ringling High School. He and Sue Seay were married Nov. 20, 1950, in Carlsbad, N.M. He was a lifetime rancher with Dennis Ranch in Oscar, and in Aledo, Texas.

He was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Cutting Horse Association. He and Bob and Billy Jack Wills co-wrote “Faded Love.”

He was a member of the Ryan United Methodist Church.

He is survived  by his wife of 62 years, Sue Dennis; children: Ladonna Dennis Davis and husband Jerry Dan, Cindy Phillips, and David Dennis; grandchildren: Zachary Dennis and wife Sommer, Tyler, Binion and Dakota Dennis, and Courtney Savage and husband Lyndle; four great-grandchildren: Skylar, Baylor, Braxton and Brooklyn.

He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, and caregivers: Barbara and Judy Gorman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Steve.

Funeral service for Mr. Dennis will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at the United Methodist Church in Ryan, with the Rev. Bryan Spivey officiating. Burial will be in the Oscar Cemetery under direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Ryan.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dudley funeral home in Ryan.

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.
