Funeral service for Joe Boydston, 79, of Apache, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Fletcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Apache under direction of Fletcher Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Boydston passed away Jan. 28, 2014, in Oklahoma City. He was 79 years old.
Joe Melton Boydston was born March 31, 1934, in Bray, to Jay and Verna Wilkes Boydston. He attended Foster High School. Joe served his country in the United States Army for six years. After being honorably discharged, Joe worked for the Duncan Fire Department for 21 years, when he retired in April of 1976.
Joe married Sue Collier on Dec. 26, 1982. The two were married for 31 years. Joe was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Apache, where he was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a Shriner. He attended the Duncan Baptist Church.
Joe enjoyed life after retirement. He liked to play dominos, go to the casino, spending time with his family and telling stories. Joe was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Boydston of the home; five sons: Jay Boydston and his wife Lori of Duncan, Stanley Boydston of Duncan, Harlan Smith and his wife Theresa of Grove, Kenny Bennefield and his wife Cindy of Oregon, and James Lukehart and his wife Cynthia of Edmond; a daughter, Jackie Wright of Lawton; three sisters: Sue Vallines, Rayleen Riddles and Jayleen Gahaler; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by parents: Jay and Verna Boydston; a daughter, Lois Ann Boydston; a son, Donald “Luke” Lukehart; two brothers: Don and Ron Boydston; and a sister, Virginia Hill.
