Roy Edmond Robinson

July 24, 1942 — Oct. 19, 2013

VELMA — Roy Edmond Robinson, 71, of Velma, OK passed away on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at his home in Velma. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at the Velma Assembly of God Church with Brother Travis Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the New Velma Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home of Duncan. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Velma Chapel.

Roy Edmond Robinson was born on July 24, 1942 in Doyle, OK to Alex Edmond Robinson and Opal Ilene Robinson (Walker). Roy graduated Pernell High School in Elmore City, Oklahoma. He worked in the oil and gas fields for Southerland Well Service, Mack Oil Company and several others until poor health caused him to retire. He was devoted his life to his sons, nieces and nephews and his dog, Apple. He loved to talk and visit the stores in Velma daily; His best saying was “If they want to be a friend, I’ll be their friend.” And he had many. Roy was a member of the Velma Assembly of God Church. He loved going to church and never missed a Sunday unless he was too ill. He spent his time drawing and painting.  

Roy is preceded in death by his brothers Preston and Ricky Robinson, a sister Opal Faye and his parents. Roy is survived by his sons, Alex Robinson and his wife Emily of Ada, OK, Daniel Carter and his wife Davina of Temple, OK; sisters, Mildred and her husband Joe Work of Norman, OK, Johnnie and her husband Temple Grundy of Velma, OK, Jenny and her husband Jim Cox of Bellmead, Texas, Audene Robinson of Velma, OK, Pam Orum of Norman, OK; grandchildren, Aiden Robinson, Morgan Cheek, Kyndal Cheek , Mallory Cheek, Sarah Carter, and Danielle Carter.

Pallbearers will be Temple Lee Grundy, Chris England, Eddie England, Brother Monk Firestone, Brother Sid Bazzrea, George Christian and Mike Lewis.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Chelsey Grundy, Emily Lewis, Sidney Lewis, and Sarah Carter.

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.
