DUNCAN — On April 9, 2013, Mary Francis Simmons long battle with cancer came to an end. Mary was surrounded by her family and friends who supported her during this battle.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Duncan Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial is under direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.

Mary was born Jan. 10, 1946, to Charlie and Ruth Martin in Duncan. Mary attended Duncan Public Schools and graduated from Duncan High School in 1964. Following graduation, Mary began her career with Halliburton.

In 1966, Mary Martin began dating Mike Simmons, and they later married in 1969. Mary and Mike celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary March 28, 2013.

In 1972, Mary gave birth to their first child, Trina Simmons, and in 1976, to their second child, Craig Simmons. Once both kids were in school, Mary continued her career with Leach and Sullivan for many years. Mary’s last position was with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office which ended in 2010, following her cancer diagnosis.

Trina blessed Mary with her first grandchild in 2000, Maci Alexander. Craig gave Mary two more grandchildren in 2002, with Abby Simmons and in 2005, with Michael Simmons. Mary loved spoiling her grandchildren with love, affection and anything else they wanted. Known as Mamaw by Maci, and Mimi by Abby and Michael, she holds a special place in all their hearts.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Martin; her mother, Ruth Martin; and her brother, Jack Martin.

Survivors include her husband, Mike Simmons of Duncan; a daughter Trina Sweat and her husband David Sweat of Duncan; a son, Craig Simmons and his wife Leanna Simmons of Spring, Texas; grandchildren: Maci Alexander, Abby Simmons and Michael Simmons; nephews: Jackie Martin of Ringling, and Billy Martin of Comanche.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the LeNorman/McCasland Cancer Center through the Duncan Regional Hospital Health Foundation.
