J. R. Roundtree

May 21, 1928 — Oct. 3, 2013

DUNCAN — J. R. Roundtree, 85, of Duncan passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, in Duncan. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7 at the chapel of Don Grantham Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Covington and Rev. Billy Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at the funeral home.

J.R. Roundtree was born on May 21, 1928, in Vanoss to Andrew J. and Mattie Lee Roundtree. J.R. served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948. He worked for TOSCO Refinery for 32 years as a warehouse man and worked for Duncan Builders as a yardman until he retired.

J. R. married Betty June Harris in Wichita Falls, Texas on June 11, 1952. J.R. was a member of the Pilgrim Nazarene Church in Duncan. He loved to fish and enjoyed wood working. He especially enjoyed visiting friends and taking time to help people.

J.R. is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty June Roundtree; brothers, Bobby Ray Roundtree, Jimmy Roundtree, Denny Roundtree and his parents, Andrew J. and Mattie Lee Roundtree.

J.R. is survived by his daughters, Linda Dodd of Duncan, Debra McKinnon of Duncan; son, Jimmy and his wife Lafreda Roundtree of Duncan; brother, Eldon and his wife Betty Roundtree of Page, Ariz.; sister, Virginia Nickels of Page, Ariz.; grandchildren Anndria Turner, Tye McKinnon, Andrew Roundtree, Brooklyn Roundtree, all of Duncan; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the building fund of the Pilgrim Nazarene Church, 655 W Cherokee Rd. Duncan, OK 73533.

Pallbearers will be Tye McKinnon, Andrew Roundtree, Josh Gillette, Mike Covington, Steve Ross and Steve Campbell.
