Dorothy ‘Granny Dot’ Jones

Jan. 29, 1920 — Oct. 3, 2013

MARLOW — Dorothy “Granny Dot” Jones, 93, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, in Marlow.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Duncan Cemetery, with the Rev. David Standifer officiating. Service will be under direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Granny Dot was born Thursday, Jan. 29, 1920, in Claypool, to Everett N. and Sarah Cora Hughes Bishop. Dorothy grew up in Claypool and graduated from Claypool High School.

She obtained her pilot’s license during WWII while working at Tinker Air Force Base. After working at Tinker, Dorothy worked as a telegraph operator for Mistletoe Express and Western Union.

On Jan. 18, 1948, Dorothy married J.W. Jones. He preceded her in death. She later worked for Farm Bureau Insurance agency as a secretary and in an electric manufacturing plant in Ardmore. She lived in the Velma-Loco area until her retirement from Wood’s convenience store in Velma.

After her retirement in 2000, she moved to Duncan where she raised a huge garden. Dorothy enjoyed photography and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Bray Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters: Becky Prater and husband Bruce of Marlow, Lynda Jones of Duncan; two grandchildren: Keith Prater, Amy Van Den Driessche; eight great-grandchildren: Lesi Mann, Dayzi Mann, Zan Prater, Addi Prater, Sophie Van Den Driessche, Ruby Van Den Driessche, Neely Prater, Allie Van Den Driessche; brother, Billy Doyle Bishop and wife Marge of Eugene, Ore.; sister, Bonnie Jeffers and husband Dale of Damascus, Ore.; sisters-in-law: Reva Bishop, Frankie Jones, Shirley Jones, Anita Jones; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers: J.T. Bishop, Leonard Bishop, Barry Elton Bishop, Ralph Bishop.

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.
