Alma Bernice Moore Foster

March 2, 1923 — April 5, 2013

DURANT — Alma Bernice Moore Foster, affectionately known as “Bea,” 90, of Durant, left us on April 5, 2013, and is now in Heaven “Singing with the Angels.” She was born to George W. Moore and Iola May Newby Moore on March 2, 1923, in Velma.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at Brown’s Funeral Service 4900 W. Highway 70 Durant, OK 74701.

Please join the family and friends prior to services for morning refreshments and a reminiscent fellowship hour from 9 to 10 a.m. Immediately following the service, we will travel to Bea’s final resting place at Rest Haven Memorial Cemetery in Duncan. Condolences may be made to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.

She grew up the oldest of six children in the Arthur Community, just west of Velma in Stephens County. Bea was a lifelong resident of Oklahoma, making her mark in Oklahoma City in the 1940s at Tinker Field supporting our WWII efforts as an airplane Rosie Riveter. She later became a nurse supporting a prestigious Oklahoma City medical practice, and finally followed her dream to open her own retail store in Del City.

After moving to Lake Texoma-Sandpoint, Mead, in the 1960s, she opened a children’s retail store in downtown Denison, Texas. Bea later opened another store in downtown, Main Street, Durant. She served on the Durant Chamber of Commerce and became an officer in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Sandpoint Volunteer Fire Department, where she was an essential asset.

After retiring, Bea was a mainstay in the local Country Music community. Along with performing in many “gigs” in Bryan County, she created and promoted various musical events. Her talent and music will be sorely missed. In her spare time, she contributed articles to the Durant newspaper, organized a quilt club and bingo sessions at The Village. Bea and her friends provided musical entertainment at lunchtime on many days at the Durant Nutrition Center, where she was also a Council Member for several years. Bea’s most recent permanent home was at Larkspur Village Retirement Community.

Bea is survived by two younger sisters: Margie Resz of Mead, and Hazel Drummond of Wichita, Kan.

She was “Mom” and “Aunt Bea” to many who adored her. She had a daughter, grandchildren, foster children, and mentored several nieces and nephews. All of us were blessed with having Bea in our lives. Her care, unselfish giving, and unconditional love guided us to grow and become the awesome adults that we are today. We will forever love and thank her for that.

Bea developed many life-long friendships with countless residents in the community. Everyone who knew her will miss her positive attitude, her beaming smile and her contagious laughter.

Arrangements are under direction of Brown’s Funeral Service, Durant.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
