Robert Gene Jones

April 28, 1928 — March 28, 2014

DUNCAN — Robert Gene Jones, 85, died Friday, March 28, 2014, in Lawton.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the chapel at Don Grantham Funeral Home with Randy Southerland officiating with interment and Masonic rites following at Duncan Cemetery under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.   

Bob was born April 28, 1928, in Duncan, to Emmett and Lois Smith Jones. At the age of 12, he moved with his family to California. He later attended Santa Monica City College in Santa Monica, Calif., for three years and acquiring an A. A. Degree in mechanical engineering.

He married Sandra Carol Buehre on July 31, 1965, in Akron, Iowa. Bob worked as a lab supervisor at Spectra Labs in California and with Cyrovac, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Bob served four years in the US Air Force as an air refueling and turret system mechanic reaching the rank of staff sergeant. Bob was a member of the Marlow Masonic Lodge No. 103, Comanche Lodge No. 41 and Duncan Lodge No. 39, where he held positions as past worshipful master, Eastern Star, Past Worthy Patron, Scottish Rite of 33rd degree and was a member of the Shriners. Bob was also a member of Marlow VFW Post 4888 post commander and past all-state post commander.

Robert Gene Jones is survived by his wife, Sandra of the home; daughter, Melinda Holt; grandchildren: Madisen Holt; sister, Wanda Nodle; brother, Doug Jones; sister, Joann Liptrap; brother, Derral Jones; brother-in-law, Gary Buehre and his wife Judy; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Stel Jones and Lois Anna Jones.

“Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but those who love, time is eternity.” You will always have a special place in our hearts.
