Billie Jean (Pollard) Long

Dec. 13, 1932 — May 19, 2013

MARLOW —

Billie Jean (Pollard) Long, 80, of Marlow passed away May 19, 2013, at her home in Marlow.
A celebration of her life will occur at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22 at the First Baptist Church chapel in Marlow. Chaplain Tracy Wilson and Pastor Joe Ligon will preside. Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Visitation for friends and family will be Tuesday, May 21 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home.
Mrs. Long was born on Dec. 13, 1932, to John and Verda Pollard in Montague, Texas. She graduated from Bowie High School in Bowie, Texas.
She married the love of her life, Monty Lee Long, on Oct. 28, 1951, in Bowie. After living in several locations while he served in the Army, the newlyweds returned to Bowie. They moved their young family to Marlow in 1958 when Monty began his career at Ft. Sill. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October 2011.
A homemaker for many years, Billie assisted at the Marlow Public Library before becoming the city’s full-time librarian for many years. She was also a talented artist and writer, especially of charcoal portraits and tender, personal poetry. She was a member of the Marlow First Baptist Church and counted as special friends those members of her Joy Sunday School class. Of course, she was most proud of her five children and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Monty Lee Long; and two sons, Monty Wayne Long and Stewart Keith Long; a brother, Harold Pollard, and a sister, Wanda (Pollard) McDonald.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynetta Long of Oklahoma City, and Connie Clark and husband, Mike of Marlow; and one son, John Long and his wife, Angela of Ada; three granddaughters, Shanna Clark, Chancie Clark and Carlee Clark, all of Marlow; and three grandsons, Parker Long of Weatherford, and Alex Long and Blake Long of Ada; a brother, Rex, and his wife, Virginia, of Midland, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Pollard, of Bowie, Texas.
Pallbearers are long-time friends Bill Kimbrough and Mike Kimbrough, son-in-law Mike Clark, and her three grandsons.
Special thanks to Aspire Hospice for the comfort and care they provided on a daily basis during the past several weeks.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
