Emma Lou Smith

July 30, 1928 — April 28, 2013

MERIDIAN — Emma Lou Smith, longtime resident of Meridian, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, April 28, 2013, at her home north of Comanche. She was 84 years old.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Ray of Hope Church, with Bro. Dow Pannell and Bro. Rusty Canoy officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, under direction of Comanche Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Family will be receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Emma was born July 30, 1928, in Wink, Texas, to Clarence A. and Mary Elizabeth McDougal Weddle. She and Alton Leon Smith were united in marriage Sept. 24, 1949, in Odessa, Texas. She retired from AT&T. Emma was a longtime member of the Meridian First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Alton of the home; two children: J.P. Smith and wife Jan of Comanche; a daughter, Sandra Smith of Jenks; four grandchildren: Justin Smith and wife Angelia, Jody Smith, Jacy Dobbins and husband Nic, and Nicholas Smith; five great-grandchildren: Kaydence Smith, Jackson Smith, Brady Dobbins, Cooper Dobbins, and Berkley Dobbins; eight brothers and sisters: Francis Elliott, Sundown, Texas, Marvin Gus Weddle and wife Elizabeth, Brentwood, Calif., Dollie Winfield and husband Curtis, McCamey, Texas, Bernice Houck and husband Dan, Sheffield, Texas, Betty Lott, Canton, Texas, Bob Weddle, Midland, Texas, Peggy Stacey, Grand Saline, Texas, and Pat Stroud and husband Jerry, Grand Saline, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be Justin Smith, Jody Smith, Kimbel Hice, Nic Dobbins, Mike Smith, and David Smith. Honorary bearers are friends and the women of her Sunday School class at Meridian Baptist Church.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and attention provided by Chisholm Trail Hospice, with special thanks to Janet, Tonya and all the caregivers.

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.
