Sherry ‘Lynn’ Cogan Reska

May 7, 1940 — March 28, 2014

LAWTON — Funeral for Sherry “Lynn” Cogan Reska, 73, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, at Lighthouse Church of God with the Rev. Delbert Hughes, pastor, officiating.

Lynn departed this life and into eternity to soar on wings of angels on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in Oklahoma City. She is with her savior Jesus Christ and the “love of her life” Joe forever.

Burial will be in the Duncan City Cemetery under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Lynn was born May 7, 1940, to Thomas Benard Cogan, Jr. and Mayme Catherine Bowen Cogan at home on the family homestead, eight miles west of Comanche, at a small place called Corum. Then with her parents, she moved to Lawton on her 13th birthday (1953), where she attended school at Lawton Junior High School.

Lynn was saved at the age of 4. Her mother taught her how to play chords on the piano beginning at age 4. After that she taught herself to play the accordion and the organ. From the age of 15, without any formal training, she played the organ or the piano for any church that needed her. Her church, her family and music were her life.

She loved to sing up until the time she no longer could. She was the organist for the Lighthouse Church of God, where she was a long-time member.

Lynn went to school in Germany for small breed grooming and was a small breed groomer in Lawton for many years. She loved to crochet. Her maternal grandmother taught her how to chain stitch at the age of 6. A friend later taught her how to read a pattern. She could crochet anything. She sold a lot of her work and gave away a lot to family and friends. She even crocheted a winter coat and hat for her youngest girl (age 6) when they had no way to get to a P.X. to buy a new one.

Lynn also collected clocks of all kinds. She always felt impressed to “be mindful of the time.”

One of her favorite poems goes like this: “The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour. Now is the only time you own. Live, love and work with a will. Place no faith in tomorrow, the hands of the clock may then be still.” – Author unknown.

Lynn married Joseph Stanley Reska, Jr. on Oct. 3, 1959. Two daughter were born of this union.

She is survived by the two daughters: Tambrie Lynn Reska of Des Moines, Iowa, and Tracy LaDonna Johnson and husband Joe David of Moore; four grandchildren: LaDawna Marie Palmer and Amanda Kay Palmer of Des Moines, grandson Jarrett Joseph Johnson of Moore, adopted granddaughter Amelia Lesemann of Des Moines; one great-granddaughter, Ryana Jean Palmer of Des Moines; a brother, Dewey Caplan Lieberman and wife Doris of Norman; three sisters-in-law: Shirley Duval and Beverly Duval, both of Burlington, Vt., and Jackie Brown and husband Fred of Milton, Vt.; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and her little companion “Savannah” and a very special angel, Tara Boggs.

Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, and her mother and father.

Memorial contributions may be made to the COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Miami, FL 33134 or to the Lighthouse Church of God, 800 NW Rogers Lane, Lawton, OK 73507.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
