J. W. Hines, 77 years of age, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 4, 2014 in his home with his family at his side.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Ray of Hope Church with Pastor Mike McCord and Dow Pannell officiating. Interment will be at the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
J. W. was born on Nov. 21, 1936 to Fred and Maud Hines in Marlow, Oklahoma. He was ninth of twelve children. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1956. The family farmed and worked hard. He loved farming the land and raising cattle. He enjoyed calf roping, and loved his horses. He cherished his family and enjoyed watching his daughters and grandchildren play sports. He also coached women’s independent basketball and was a referee. He received the Award of Merit for Outstanding Accomplishments in Resource Conservation and was an Honorary Chapter Farmer of Empire FFA. He had served on the Community ASC Committee for Stephens County.
He married the love of his life Betty JoAnn Skiles on Feb. 10, 1964. She preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2007.
J. W. is survived by three daughters: Adenya and husband Tim Spivey; Angela and husband James Hearrell and Marqueta Hines all of Duncan. Two grandchildren: Shayna Dresser and husband Jerry; Ethan Leonhart and wife Crystal all of Duncan. Two great-grandchildren: Addyson Dresser and Colton Leonhart. Two sisters Freda Sharp of Bakersfield, CA and Cathy DeRoin and husband Logan of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and one brother Fred Hines of Tuscarora, Maryland. He is also survived by two sister-in-laws Marilyn Hines and Patricia Kearby and two brother-in-laws W. C. Ross and Robert Skiles. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers – Don Hines, Lloyd Hines, Troy Hines and M. T. Hines, and four sisters Lois Whatley, Betty Chitwood, Vivian Self, and Sue Ross.
Pallbearers will be Ethan Leonhart, Jerry Dresser, Lyndol Hines, Barney Hines, Keith Ross, and Shane McDonald. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elvin Hines, Gus Gardner, Gerald Umstead, Todd Gilbert, Glenn Milligan and Jim Swoap.
Guests will be received at the family home.
