Wylie P. Loftin

April 30, 1924 — Dec. 13, 2013

DUNCAN — Wylie P. Loftin, 89, longtime resident of Duncan passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, in Lawton.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30 at First Christian Church, Duncan with Rev. Arnold Nelson Jr. officiating. Services are under the direction of the Don GranthamFuneral Home. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Wylie was born April 30, 1924, near Loving, Texas to Wylie P. and Iva Dell (Pierce) Loftin Sr. He graduated in 1942 from Graham High School and lettered in football and basketball. He attended Texas Tech for one semester, then enlisted in the United States Army.

During World War II, he served in the Army Amphibian Special Forces for three years in the South Pacific-Asiatic Theater of operations. He was part of the invasions that established beachheads in the Philippines, Okinawa and the Rynka Islands.

While serving in these battle zones, he received many decorations and medals, including American Theater Campaign medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with two battle stars, Philippine Liberation medal with two bronze stars and bronze arrowhead, Good Conduct medal and World War II Victory medal.

Upon his return from  the service, Wylie enrolled at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he played football for three years and was co-captain in 1946 and 1948. In May of 1948, Wylie married Anabel Holloway, while they were both students at Midwestern State University.

Wylie worked most of his life in Heavy Truck & Equipment sales at both the corporate level and retail. The last 30 years with Chief Truck & Equipment in Duncan. He was an active member of First Christian Church and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Wylie is survived by his wife, Ann of the home; three children, Cindy Bartel and husband Lonnie of Fairview, Brad Loftin of Euless, Texas and David Loftin of Norman; six grandchildren: Matt, Jon, Scott and Craig Bartel and Melissa Martin and husband Eric and Gabe Lofitn; seven great-grandchildren and a host of other family and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brothers, Lynn Loftin and Glyn Loftin.

Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren Matt Bartel, Jon Bartel, Scott Bartel, Craig Bartel, Gabe Loftin and Melissa Martin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 912 W. Walnut, Duncan, Oklahoma 73533.
