DUNCAN — Ernie Lee “Bud” Sessums, of Velma, peacefully passed away early Monday morning, Dec. 16, 2013, at his home. He was 61 years old.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at New Hope Baptist Church in Duncan, with Bro. Randy Southerland officiating. Interment will follow at Dixie Cemetery, under direction of Comanche Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Family will be receiving friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Comanche Funeral Home.

Bud was born Nov. 29, 1952, in Ringling, to Ernest F. and Nettie Skeen Sessums. He was a graduate of Ringling High School. He and Susan “Suzi” Bristow were united in marriage Sept. 17, 1979, in Gainesville, Texas. Bud owned and operated his own tank truck business for many years.

He loved to cook, including many chili cook off events; OU football, hanging out with his friends at Cedar Blue, especially “Will”; he loved music, and he liked to be the  “boss!” More than anything else he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Susan of the home; three children: Shawn Sessums and wife April, Marlow, Amber Sullivan and Dean, Ardmore; and Annie McKinley and Darrell Nixon, Velma; a son-in-law, Rowdy McKinley, Davis; three brothers: Cecil Hopkins and wife Sarah, Borger, Texas, Jimmy Hopkins, Borger, and Ray Hopkins, Borger; a sister, Carolyn Sessums, Ringling; seven grandchildren: Dillon Sullivan, Chance Blain, Dalton Sessums, Morgan Sessums, Garyn McKinley, Ritchie McKinley and Hendrix Nixon; two great-grandchildren: Lyric and Addison; eight “special grandchildren”: Brock, Tripp, Kayla, Chloe, Cameron, Dylan, Cage, Doc and Adam and Ashlynn; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ember; and a sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Slim Phillips.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist West, Duncan.
