Verna Lee Choate, 81, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at her home in Marlow.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the First Baptist Church in Marlow, with Dr Joe Ligon officiating.
Verna was born Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1932, in Butler, to Ernest and Hallie Newcomb Smith. Verna grew up in Butler and graduated from Butler High School. She lived in Mustang before moving to Marlow in May 2013.
On April 12, 1952, Verna married Arthur “Buck” Eugene Choate in Clinton. He preceded her in death in 2003. Verna was a homemaker and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, reading and singing at nursing homes and for her church. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Western Heights Baptist Church in Duncan.
Survivors include son, Wesley Choate of Mustang; daughters: Debbie Guy of Marlow, Cindy Hughes and husband Kevin of Miniola, Texas, Marie McCuller and husband Larry of Mustang; 18 grandchildren: Michalena McMahill, Marti Ferguson, Kyle Choate, Dalton Choate, Dooling Choate, Wesley Williams, Shannon Trinidad, Mandi Carroll, Thomas Williams, Randy Williams, Dallas Guy, Paul Kennedy, Erin Kennedy, Jessica Kennedy, Clint Kennedy, Leslie McCuller, Andy McCuller, Karly McCuller; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, John Wesley Smith of Carter; sisters: Ada Spencer of Butler, Belle Rawson of Yukon; several nieces and nephews.
Verna was also preceded in death by her parents.
