Gary Joe Brown

May 4, 1954 — July 6, 2013

VELMA — Gary Joe Brown, 59, of Velma, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, in Velma.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, in New Hope Baptist Church West, with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Comanche, under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home in Duncan.

Joe was born May 4, 1954, in Duncan, the son of Bobby J. and Uva Virginia McEntire Brown. He worked in the agriculture and farming industry and was a former PGA professional.

He is survived by a daughter, Tara Dawson and husband Mike of Haileyville; two brothers: Mike Brown and wife Karrie of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Kris Brown and wife Mary of The Colony, Texas; and four grandchildren: Sean Dawson, David Dawson, Kaylinn Dawson and Annie Jo Dawson, all of Haileyville. He is also survived by four nephews: Cole, Conor, Matt and Dylan; and a niece, Jenna.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Virginia Brown; and a brother, Matt Brown.

Pall bearers will be Billy Keck, Charles Corbin, Gary Corbin, Marty Smith, Steve McFarland, Roger Gilbert, Justin Strickland, Randy Kraft, Gary Moore, Mark Wade, Vernon Wright and Leonard Ketchum.
