Oral Leslie Ellis

June 13, 1923 — April 21, 2013

On April 21, 2013, Oral Leslie Ellis left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior, with his loving family at his side. Oral fought a courageous battle with cancer. He was not a complainer and right up until the end you would not hear him complain. He tried every day to live each day to the fullest and he had a very giving heart.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24th, at Prairie Hill Church of Christ, Meridian, with Mario Pineda and Don Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Comanche, under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Oral, also known as “Papa,” was born June 13, 1923, to Lynn and Lorene Ellis in the Newport community. His childhood and growing up years were spent in Wilson. Oral was the oldest of four children born to the union of his parents. He was followed by Lucille Kerby, Kermit Ellis and Imogene McArthur. Oral was also raised with a nephew, Ray Clark, who was considered a brother.
Oral attended Rexroat High School before joining the Army in 1943. He served in World War II for three years. After returning home, Oral met Barbara Branch in April of 1946, at the DC Grocery in Meridian. They were married on March 25, 1947, in Henrietta, Texas. They have lived in the Meridian community all their married lives, and he retired from Sun Oil/Tosco as a welder.
Some of Papa’s favorite things to do were camping at Lake Texoma for approximately 65 years, raising thourghbred horses, having coffee with the guys at Meridian Kwik Mart, following his kids, grandkids and greats in sports, watching golf and the Thunder. But his favorite thing to do was eating out with his family.
Oral was active in his church. He was a devoted member at Prairie Hill Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for 20 years. He was also an attendance keeper for many years.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
