Stephen H. Jeffries

Sept. 1, 1947 — Sept. 27, 2013

Henderson, TX — Funeral services for Mr. Stephen H. Jeffries, 66, of Henderson, Texas, formerly of Duncan, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, in the chapel of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Brown and the Rev. Billy Paul Cain officiating.  Interment will be at a later date in Galena Cemetery in Umpire, Ark.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home in Henderson.

Mr. Jeffries passed from this life Sept. 27, 2013, at his residence. He was born Sept. 1, 1947, in Comanche, to the late Harold James Jeffries and Florence Hambrick Bridwell and had lived in Henderson for the past 20 years. Steve served his country in the United States Navy and served three tours in Vietnam with the USS Hornet, the USS Delta, and the MCB Fore See Bees.

He met and married Vickie Evans in May of 1969, at NTC Bainbridge, Md., and they shared 44 years together. After his years with the Navy, Steve furthered his education at Oklahoma Missionary Baptist College in Marlow. He attained a bachelor’s degree in applied ministries and also in theology.

Steve was awarded the Golden Cross award while in school there, the highest award that can be given by the school. He had a passion to talk to and witness about the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church of Wickes, Ark.

He worked as a machinist for Halliburton and also as a self-employed contractor.  Some of Steve’s hobbies included playing gospel and bluegrass music on his guitar and building woodwork items. Steve was a faithful, loving husband and a wonderful father.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold James Jeffries; infant son, Bobby Lynn Jeffries; and brother, Charles Lynn Jeffries.

Survivors include wife, Vickie Jeffries of Henderson; mother and step-father, Florence Bridwell and Delbert of Duncan; and daughter, Cheryle Stapelfeldt and husband Bill of Houston, Texas.

Honorary pallbearers are Tom Hallford, Mike Tarbutton, Chris Hughes, Ray Hughes, Arthur Evans, Elbert Evans, Frank Evans and Allan Evans.

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.

    Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, in the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery under direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.
