TATUMS — Dorothy Mae Alexander, 82, of Duncan, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 at her home surrounded by a loving family.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 23, at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Ronald L. Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Tatums Cemetery, Tatums, under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born March 13, 1931 at Tatums to James G. and Lillie Belle (Hotchkins) Austin.
She attended Tatums High School. Dorothy was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Duncan. She retired from Halliburton Services in 1986 and later worked as a private health care provider.
Dorothy married Jeff Alexander on Nov. 3, 1951 at Wichita Falls, Texas. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 2006.
Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Deborah Smith of Oklahoma City, Phyllis Alexander of Duncan, and Arva Peters and husband Terry of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Warner Austin of Duncan, and Don Austin and wife Gwen of Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren, Kiley (Wendi) Brown, Kacey Brown, Adrienne Alexander, Bethany (Kevin) Mooreland, Taryn Peters and Alexandria Peters; eight great-grandchildren: Jasmine Alexander-Brookings, Stephen Blair, Solomon Stitt, Ryley Peters, Kywin, Brayden and Dorien Brown and Kingston Mooreland.
Dorothy is also survived by a host of other family members and close friends.
