Joyce Robert (J.R.) Dutton

Aug. 15, 1927 — Nov. 10, 2013

MARLOW — Joyce Robert (J.R.) Dutton, 86, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, in Oklahoma City.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Wray officiating. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Comanche County under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.

J.R. was born Monday, Aug. 15, 1927, in Brinkman to Herman B. and Sylva L. (Mohler) Dutton. J.R. lived most of his life in the Marlow and Central High area. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On Dec. 18, 1957, he married Chloe Ann Cox in Wichita Falls, Texas. She preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 2007. J.R. worked as a well tender for Arkla Gas, retiring in 1985 after 36 years of service. After his retirement, J.R. began jogging and walking daily to stay active.

He continued on his daily four-mile walks, visiting with friends and neighbors along the way. He loved country music. J.R. enjoyed all of his farm work, including fence building, raising and caring for his livestock and animals, welding, and hoeing weeds.

Survivors include son, Stephen Dutton and wife Debbie of Chickasha; daughter, Darlene Slone and husband Rodney of Hallsville, Texas; grandchildren, Jason Browning and wife Sara, Sabrina Browning, Daniel Cox, Ryan Duncan, Jennifer Dutton; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Dutton, Sarah Dutton, Fisher Browning; sister, Luella Morrison of Chattanooga, Tenn.; numerous nieces and nephews.

J.R. was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Luther Dutton.
