Wanda Faye Parrish

April 22, 1932 — Feb. 6, 2014

WALTERS — Funeral service for W. Faye Parrish, 81, of Walters, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Walters, with the Rev. Paul Metcalf officiating. Burial will be in the Walters Cemetery.

Memorial Donations can be made to the Walters Education Foundation, 418 S. Broadway, Walters, OK 73572 or the Walters Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 485, Walters, OK 73572.

Wanda Faye Parrish was born to Owen Willis and Eugenia Tipton Blair Sellers on April 22, 1932, in Walters, and departed this life Feb. 6, 2014, in Lawton, at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 15 days.

Faye attended Plainview and Prospect rural schools before moving to Lawton. The family then moved to Oklahoma City, and she attended Western Heights until the family settled in Duncan,  finishing fifth through 12th grades there.

Faye spent her young adult years in Walters, raising her three sons. While there, she owned and operated the Country Kitchen. She was active in the Dahlia Garden Club, Jaycee Janes, Jaycee Men’s Club, Lioness Club, Walters Alumni and Oklahoma Chrysanthemum Society.

She was a state champion flower arranger for two years in the 1960s and won 125 awards for her floral designing. She was a member of the Walters First Baptist Church and was baptized with her two older sons.

As an adult Faye attended a business and design school in Denver, Colo. She returned to Lawton and worked for Ramon’s Flowers and Gifts before moving to Oklahoma City at age 44. She worked for Han Cook Funeral Home and Flowers and later worked for Trochtas Flowers, designing 2500 weddings and half that many parties. Upon retirement she made her way back to Duncan and eventually Walters, to be near family and friends.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Roland Parrish; two sisters: Tomy Jo Wilson and Jean Reid.

She is survived by two sons and their wives: Max Parrish Jr. and Mary of Walters, Tommy Parrish an LaDonna of Holiday, Texas; five grandchildren: Crystal Keys of Indiahoma, Lindsey Rainey of Lawton, Carlton Parrish of Lawton, Stephanie Parrish of Dallas, Texas, Kody Powers and Jadan Parrish of Holiday; two great-grandchildren: Paisley and Lyla Keys of Indiahoma; a sister and brother-in-law, Priscilla and John Cottrell of Denver, Colo.; a special cousin, Billie Kathryn Tenison; two special high school friends: Fluff Smith and Renee Schlein, both of Duncan; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
