Lelia May Evans

March 10, 1928 — Feb. 6, 2014

MARLOW — Memorial service for Lelia May Evans, 85, of Marlow, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Matt Scrapper and the Rev. Tracy L. Wilson officiating. Services are under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

There is no visitation at the funeral home.

Lelia May Evans passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Duncan Regional Hospital. Lelia May was born on March 10, 1928, in Tecumseh, to John William and Ollie Pearl Childers McLaughlin. Lelia married the love of her life, Robert Terrell Evans on April 3, 1955, in Tecumseh.

She was a homemaker and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an active member of First Christian Church in Duncan for 44 years, working with the Sunday school and serving as an Elder, Chairman of the Board and as the Church Treasurer, before becoming an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Marlow. Lelia enjoyed reading and writing poetry. She also enjoyed being a good wife and mother to her family, and was always volunteering her time to help her husband and her children.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Robert Evans of Marlow; daughters: Donna Varnell and her husband Billy of Marlow, Melissa Denton and her husband John of North Richland Hills, Texas; son, Mike Evans and his wife Angie of Duncan; grandchildren: Somer Sleeman, Sara Denton, Megan Sanner, Maisey Varnell, Nick Evans, Robby Evans, Cody Evans, Jenny Evans; great-grandchildren: Bryan Sleeman, Kendrick Sanner; and a beloved niece, Karla Markle.

Lelia was preceded in death by her brother, Jake Mclaughlin; a sister, Mildred Thompson; and her parents, John and Ollie McLaughlin.

Family would ask that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the memorial fund at First Methodist Church in Marlow or to help fund the John 6:35 Meal Program at First Christian Church/The Well in Duncan. Online condolences may be made to the family at
